SHORT BIO

Jake Dongyoung Shim gained international recognition winning the 'Isang Yun Prize' & 3rd Prize at the ISANGYUN Competition, being the first to win by playing Yun’s concerto. After winning 1st Prize & Bach Prize at the Stulberg International String Competition, he recently won prizes at the Mozart, Klein, Bach, and Kreisler International Competitions. He is also the recipient of numerous honors including Manfred Grommek-Förderpreis from the Kronberg Academy where he made his solo debut with the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to winning the 'Isang Yun Prize', the SONY Classical Records will be working with Jake to produce his début album.

Jake will make his debut as a soloist with orchestras including the Baltimore Orchestra and Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Jake has appeared at festivals including the La Jolla SummerFest, Verbier Festival Academy, and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Spring Festival, performing alongside esteemed musicians such as Noah Bendix- Balgley, Ben Beilman, Juho Pohjonen, and Inon Barnatan.

His principal mentors include Ida Kavafian, Shmuel Ashkenasi, and Pam Frank at Curtis Institute of Music, Itzhak Perlman at PMP, and Don Weilerstein at NEC.

He plays the Stradivarius 1700 “Dragonetti” on generous loan from the Nippon Foundation. Learn more
